Where is Santa Pola?
Santa Pola is a seaside town on the Costa Blanca. In the fourth century BC, the Iberians began trading with the Greeks in the Spanish Santa Pola. In addition, the Romans enlarged the port, which has affected the maritime trade. In the 16th century, the city was plagued by frequent attacks of pirates. On the nearby island of Tabarca there was a hideout for buccaneers. All in all, the invasions ended with the construction of a defensive castle and watchtowers.
Today Santa Pola has about 32 thousand inhabitants. It is a beautifully situated city with beaches, a port and numerous tourist attractions. The close proximity to the airport and other tourist resorts makes Santa Pola a very attractive place to invest in.
Best things to do in Santa Pola
Santa Pola offers wonderful sandy beaches, such as Playa Lisa, which is safe for children because the shallows stretch for tens of meters deep into the sea. The impressive 16th century castle, or El Castillo-Fortaleza is the magnet attracting visitors to Santa Pola. It was designed in 1553 by the Italian engineer Juan Bautista Antonelli. It was to defend the coast against pirate attacks. Despite its beautiful and rich history, the excellent conditions for sunbathing and water sports are the main reasons for tourists to spend a blissful holiday. An unusual attraction of this region are also the salt mines (Salinas de Santa Pola), which have been declared a nature reserve. The view of flamingos and birds of all kinds is a beautiful showcase of the region, just as the huge salt mountains.
